More about our coaching team

Paul Bennett – Head Coach

As an experienced qualified coach, Paul has guided cyclists to numerous national medals, and from 4th Category circuit races to UCI Continental Teams.  Paul’s expertise has shone all the way to the international stage; after leading a British Elite Development Team (PB Performance) for multiple seasons, Paul has also acted as a DS for Team Ireland at the European Road Championships.

Paul has spent the last decade progressing athletes from grass-roots to elite performers. Formerly a competitive racer, Paul has first-hand knowledge and execution of the training principles he applies. He has also competed in events such as L’Etape du Tour and multi-sport races, such as triathlon, in order to further build this understanding.

Paul has numerous formal coaching qualifications including British Cycling qualifications in MTB, track, cyclo-cross, road and time-trial.  He is also INSCYD and Training Peaks accredited.

Continuing professional development remains a key priority within PB Performance. Paul rigorously applies the findings of scientific literature and attends regular conferences and webinars on the evolving sports science, and coaching techniques, software, and equipment.

Paul continues to manage both regional and elite development teams within Team PB Performance, further building his appreciation of an endurance athlete’s journey through the many levels of sport.  Race experience includes the British Cycling national road series and circuit series, UCI Cicle Classic and the Tour Series to name a few.

Some of Paul’s major coaching successes include world and national medallists in both cycling and triathlon; world AG Ironman silver medal, triathlon national middle distance silver medal, cycling national time trial silver medal and national track kilo gold medal.

Tom Davies

As an athlete, Tom has gone from ultra-endurance record breaker, to road racer, to elite triathlete. Now a qualified coach, Tom uses his unparalleled practical experience to guide his approach.

At 19 years old, Tom became the youngest person to cycle around the world. Covering over 160km per day for over 6 months. Following this, Tom spent multiple seasons gaining experience on the British Road Racing scene, before transitioning to triathlon. Only 3 years after his first race, Tom won a silver medal in his age group at the 2021 IRONMAN World Championships and silver medal in the British middle distance championship.
Tom has pushed his body in numerous and extreme ways, and possesses incredible understanding when it comes to the demands of training and racing across a range of events.

As well as a background training around a full-time job, Tom has spent extended periods training full-time, often alongside some of the best athletes in the world. He recognises the pressures of different lifestyles, and applied this insight in becoming an IRONMAN certified coach.

Few people have experienced a greater range of physical challenges and Tom is uniquely placed to share his knowledge with others, through the PB Performance philosophy.
